The Saddest Landscape - You Will Not Survive

I know, Screamo is dead, blah blah.
So is this site. Sorry people... person. I just don't have the time to update anymore. No, not even once a day. It's a sad state of affairs. I ahven't even been keeping up with music.

Here is some sites you should hit up.

Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy [2011]

Really good, lo-fi indie rock. You can cop it from their bandcamp you can also cop other albums by them there too. All on a "name your price" basis.
If you like it, I suggest you give them a little of your monies.

Le Butcherettes - Sin Sin Sin [2011]

Fuzzy guitars, lo-fi punk and female vocals.

Saturday, 5 November 2011

DyE - Taki 183 [2011]

DyE is Juan De Guillebon, French electronic producer who makes pretty good minalist electronic beats that are, well, good to put it simply. You might have seen the fantasy video, maybe? The album as a whole is a really good experience. So, yes, GET ON IT.

A Lull - Confetti [2011]

Apparently I missed out on this gem. Everyone kept asking if I had heard it, I had not. So I got round to getting it, and well. I must say if you missed this gem, I suggest you fix that error.

From their last.fm because it does a better job describing than I could.
Chicago’s A Lull is nearly impossible to describe without qualifiers. Equal parts mystical and primal, the music crafted by these five multi-instrumentalists gathers the recognizable traits of a half dozen indie micro-genres, tosses out all but the stem cells, then adds the calculated, percussive verve of a half dozen rhythm sections on top of beautifully crafted songwriting to result in a sound that is as unique as it is memorable. A Lull blurs the lines between the synthesized and organic.

Michael Jordan - Summer Demos [2008]

This isn't the cover. I ahve no idea what the cover looks like. My friend sent me the link and I really enjoyed it. You may like it, may not, I don't know. I like it.

Saturday, 15 October 2011

Devon Williams - Euphoria [2011]

Devon Williams performs a shimmering pop music that tempers sweetness and bliss with an honest, unguarded perspective. (Slumberland Records)
It's jingly jangly indie pop for all the family.

Slow Club - So yeah (2009)

Slow Club are Charles Watson and Rebecca Taylor from Sheffield, United Kingdom. They sing using quirky lyrics, a variety of percussion instruments and great vocal interplay.

La Dispute - Wildlife [2011]

[post-hardcore/literary lyricism]

I'm not all that into post-hardcore, give or take a few bands. One of those bands is La Dispute who have released nothing but good. I posted their spoken word EPs before. The band aren't your typical scream, scream, cheesy, cheesy post-hardcore, but rather a talented potent group with emotional lyrics that aren't 'hurr she dun left me and now I'm alone'. La Dispute tell stories with their lyrics, and the do it well. So download this, give it a chance, don't be so fucking hipster.

Sweet Nothings - Night & Day

I've uploaded this to mediafire, but you can also listen/get it free/pay for it here.
This is a pretty EP by Sweet Nothing. An unsigned Indie Folk / Neo-soul band from Atlanta, United States. Making music from their own living room, Matthew and Lea Herring “transform accosting words into an alluring display of raw and delicate emotions”.
(Guest musicians include: Stephen Banister, Julie Wynne, and Jordan Bush)*

(Always count on last.fm for a description when you're too hungover to write your own.)

The So So Glos - Low Back Chain Shift [2010]

I meant to post this a good while back, back in 2010 actually. I like The So So Glos, a small indie-punk outfit from brooklyn. They make fun energetic music that we can all kick a can to.
They aren't punk per-se, but they do have some fugaziesque elements. If you were alive in 2008 you probably heard the song My Block playing on pretty much every "counter-culture" radio station across the world, or not. I don't know, I don't speak for the world. However, yes, check 'em out.
Also, this is an EP.
If you like them, check out their 2008 full length Tourism/Terrorism.

Idaho - You Were A Dick [2011]

You might know Idaho, you might not. They're a pretty good slowcore band kind of in the same vain as Bedhead and Codeine. They probably hate the term slowcore too. But it's one of those genre titles that gives people an idea of what to expect. Anyway, yeah, this is their latest album, and if you haven't heard them by now, get it, I guess. If you have heard 'em, get it anyway, it's good.

YoungTeam - Daydreamer [2011]

When listening to Youngteam my memory often floats back to when all I did was sit and listen to My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive. Now, when I tell people this they assume that Youngteam are just another band trying to relive the days they listened to Slowdive and MBV. The truth is however, while the influence is strong, you can tell that these guys have incorporated everything that has came since the shoegazing days of the 80s. 90s and 00s indie rock for example is also heavily present as an influence here and it all works together to make a rather interesting album.

Seapony - Go With Me [2011]

[Deleted on request]

When summer comes everyone gets into the summer groove, then summer goes and the groove changes. Seapony are that summer groove thang, but they're still staying here when summer goes. Like that creepy guy you talked to while waiting in line at the show to see that one band you thought sucked, but were pretty good live for some reason.

Sad songs hidden in upbeat tunes of summery awesome.

Girls Name - Dead to Me [2011]

[surf-pop]

This is one of my albums of the year so far. It's fun, summery and beautiful.
By now you probably know I'm no good at reviewing stuff, just take me at my word, it's good.

Cymbals Eat Guitars - Lenses Aliens [2011]

If you were alive in 2009 you probably couldn't go anywhere without someone mentioning Why There Are Mountains, the debut by Cymbals Eat Guitars. It just appeared out of nowhere and took everyone by surprise. Well, now the New York quartet are back with a new album. Lenses Aliens takes what they did with the first album and builds on it to produce a well rounded album. Expect to see this in top albums of 2011 for sure.

Wugazi - 13 Chambers [2011]

[post-hardcore/rap]

You know Wu Tang, You know Fugazi. Well, this is Wu Tang raps over Fugazi beats. Simple as that. 10/10

Saturday, 23 July 2011

Tyvek - Live from Third Man [2011]

Live recordings from their set at Third Man, it's pretty much what you expect from a live set from a lo-fi band. Nothing spectacular but worth a download and listen all the same.

Los Annovas - Fabrica [2010]

With yesterdays upload being a semi-popular band I've decided to make another upload this time with a more "obscure" band. Los Annovas are a Spanish language band... were a Spanish languaged band from Colombia. This EP totals in at ~12 minutes but it's twelve minutes of enjoyable fun.
things to expect, fuzzy guitars, Spanish vocals, heavy drumming and some electro-noise added in for kicks.

Radio Wire Empire - Color and Colour EP [2011]

I came across this in my music folder and no idea how it came to be. Anyway, I listened to it and felt it need to be shared with people. So yeah, enjoy.
It's kind go shoegaze with a more electro tint to it. I think the vocals were quite tight on this too, and like most "shoegazey" artists it blends in with the music which is always a good thing I think.

Bear Cavalry - Demos [2010]/New Demos [2011]

They make me smile, the link above is to their bandcamp where you can cop there demos for free. And if you like them, maybe pay £3 for their EP. I dunno. Look 'em up if you like the sound of Cribs meet Bloc Party.

William Bonney - Good Vibes [2011]

Kids call it Skramz, I don't know what the fuck the cool names are, back when it was I Hate Myself and Saetia etc... it was just Screamo/Emo, but whatever. Kids will be kids.
Anyway, this has been doing the rounds pretty much anywhere cool kids are to be found (and some places cool kids are not found). And, well, I like it. So I thought I'd post it here. I figure not everyone will enjoy it, but give me a break, I've delivered the goods before. Trust me on this, give it a go. You might even like it.

Peelies/Jesuslesfilles - split [2011]

[Fuzzy garage goodness]

Jesuslesfilles are a French Canadian band with male and female duo vocals and a lot of fuzzyness. They're pretty damn good. The Peelies are an all girl band who are also really good. Put them on a cassette together and you have my release of the year. And it's only $5 from Planet Tapes and they send anywhere. Or you can just download it here, I know what you kids are like and your aversion to anything analogue.

Cosmicdust - Snow Noise Assemblage [2006]

I have a report due monday so this weekend is going to be spent with my pen and some paper (or iWorks/OpenOffice.) so I decided to updatemid-week this week. Anyway, while I will be doing my report I will be listening to a collection of music I've had for a while and never got round to listening to. The above is one of those. I finally listened to it today and feel it needs to be shared. So yes here I am sharing with you some pretty damn fine shoegaze from a lone Japanese man. Enjoy.

Family Portrait - Self-Titled [2011]

I was rudely awoken the other day by the postman. Being unexpecting of mail I was rather disgruntled. So imagine my visage when he handed over a parcel the size of a vinyl.. It turns out my friend sent it too me as a very late birthday gift. She included a nice little not saying sorry.
Anyway, the reason for the anecdote I hear yoi say. This was that album and I really enjoyed it. So yeah, there you go.

Saturday, 7 May 2011

Psychedelic Horseshit - Laced [2011]

Fuzzy guitars, unassuming vocals, distortion and other noise. Psychedelic Horseshit are one of those bands that have been around, created a subgenre and still have less than 20k fans on Last.fm. Although my housemate said "It's not surprising, it's just noise." I however enjoy, and so I'm posting it here in hopes you guys enjoy themt too.

Danger Beach - Milky Way (2010)

A few weeks ago I was reading Cartoon Brew when I came across the following video. I actually thought it was quite good, and the song was rather catching. I decided to get a hold of the full album. And well, it was also really good. So yeah, I thought I'd share. (Oh yeah Danger Beach is the side project of Assassins 88 bassist L.A. Thomas)

The Thermals - More Parts per Million [2003]

I like The Thermals, they're a nice, fun indie band. Their later recordings are more clean, but I still think this is their best work and not just because it was done on a shoestring budget. So yeah, there isn't much to say on this. Generic, but good, indie-rock recorded on the cheap.

Omon Ra II & Dirty Beaches - Split [2010]

Omon Ra II lands in Montreal and immediately unleashes a seething explosion of post-hyperbole psych-punk: relentless equalizer rejection and blazing guitar shreddery battling for every magnetic millimeter. Meanwhile, Dirty Beaches departs Montreal for sunny Vancouver and metamorphoses into wild nullophonic mystic rockisms; wasted, minimally-greased rockabilly for deadbeat cowboys and vintage thuggery. An odd paring, but this isn’t the first time the Omon moniker sat beside something equally disparate. Mind = blown.

La Dispute - Here, Hear I-III

La Dispute are a post-hardcore band that make intelligent music. This is a collection of their EPs Here, Hear.
It's spoken word over post-hardcore music for the most part, it actually sounds a lot better than I'm making it.
If you enjoy them, you can pay money over at http://ladispute.bandcamp.com/

Urusei Yatsura

[Sexy lo-fi goodness]

Urusei Yatsura were a Scottish lo-fi band that were around in the 90's-early 00's. Growing up my friends brother was in university so I heard all the college radio bands like Sonic Youth etc. Out of all those bands Urusei Yatsura was the one I use band I use to play on my walkman all the time. There mix of lo-fi indie and noise rock/shoegaze is just the kind of thing my young virgin ears needed in order to develop a budding interest in music.

Our Sleepless Forrest - S/T [2008]

I'm going to be away from the PC all weekend, and so I'm posting a few things here today. The first is an ambient drone release from back in 2008 when ambient drone was somewhat popular.
For those thinking I'm dropping lo-fi I'm not, the next post (which will probably be up later today) will be filled with straight up sexy lo-fi goodness.

Saturday, 19 March 2011

Lone Pigeon - Concubine Rice [2002]

Lone Pigeon was in a band called The Beta Band, they were good, but he had to split for health reasons. Then he came back to fife and started recording solo material. This is one of said solo pieces. It's really good and he shows why Fife shouldn't be left out of the Scottish music scene. Him and the whole Fence Collective.

Weird Ribs - 803 Days [2011]

[Experimental/Electronic/Hipster Drone?]

Is it still cool to like "hipster drone"? I mean, Wet Hair have a new LP due out this year, so who knows it may be due for a revival. Even Gang Gang Dance are bringing out an new LP. Anyway, I thought seeing as I'm trying to get this blog back on track I'd post something else so 2011 doesn't look like a bad year so far.
Enjoy!

Sports Bar - Demo [2011]

I've moved house and had no internet access for the last few months, but now I do. So the plan is to update at least once a week, try and get this blog back on track. So first up is this 11 track demo by a pretty talented bunch of guys. They only have 130-something listeners on Last.fm which is a shame because they are deserving of much more. Maybe if they did a track with OFWGKTA (They''re popular at the moment right?) they could get the numbers they deserve, I don't know. Still even if one person is still following and downloads this, I'd be happy.
